1. Introduction

RentEase("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting the privacy of our users. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and website. This policy is compliant with the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, 2023.

2. Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of personal data:

  • Account Information: Name, email address, phone number, and role (landlord/tenant).
  • Property Data: Property address, rent amount, lease terms, and property photos.
  • KYC Data: Aadhaar number (masked), PAN number, and verification status. Collected only with explicit consent via Cashfree Identity.
  • Payment Data: UPI transaction IDs, payment amounts, and timestamps. We do not store full bank account or card details.
  • Communication Data: WhatsApp message delivery status and in-app messages.
  • Device Data: Device type, operating system, app version, and anonymous analytics.

3. How We Use Your Data

  • To provide and maintain the RentEase service.
  • To facilitate rent collection and payment tracking.
  • To perform tenant verification (KYC) with your explicit consent.
  • To generate rental agreements and facilitate e-signatures.
  • To send automated WhatsApp notifications (rent reminders, receipts, etc.).
  • To provide financial reports and tax export functionality.
  • To improve our service through anonymous usage analytics.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on Google Cloud / Firebase infrastructure with enterprise-grade security. All data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest (AES-256). KYC data is stored in masked form — we never store full Aadhaar numbers. Access to production data is restricted to authorized personnel only.

5. Data Sharing

We share data only with:

  • Cashfree Payments: For UPI payment processing and KYC verification.
  • MSG91: For WhatsApp message delivery and OTP services.
  • Google Firebase: For cloud infrastructure and authentication.

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal data to third parties for marketing purposes.

6. Your Rights (DPDP Act 2023)

Under the DPDP Act, you have the right to:

  • Access your personal data and know how it is being processed.
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete personal data.
  • Erase your personal data (right to be forgotten).
  • Withdraw consent for data processing at any time.
  • Nominate a person to exercise your rights in case of death or incapacity.
  • Lodge a grievance with our Data Protection Officer or the Data Protection Board of India.

7. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. Financial records are retained for 7 years as required by Indian tax laws. KYC verification records are retained for 5 years. Upon account deletion, personal data is permanently erased within 90 days, except where retention is required by law.
